I never got a girl pregnant, but I ate that elevator pizza.

Today was Day 3, which started with me waking up from 3.5 hours' sleep and getting a ride from Addison to a church in Van Nuys where we shot Genomicon 2028.  There was a lot of dialogue, but we jumped around a lot and did it all in bite-sized chunks, which went really well.  The hardest part of shooting this scene was managing my calorie intake at crafty.  Unfortunately, you don't burn a lot of calories on movie sets because mostly what you do on film sets is stand around, with occasional sitting.  I made a mental note that possibly later in the day after we wrapped, I would walk somewhere.

The actors were asked to improvise a bunch of in-character genomics conversations during parts of the panel, and I was amazed at what was coming out of these actors' mouths.  Brett later informed me that part of their audition process had involved similar improv tests, and that Scott, who wound up playing Marka Feeks, improvised several minutes of genomics dialogue with Sheldon at the audition.  Right before lunch, we switched from the [camera we're using to shoot the movie] to Brett's iPhone 5 for some cell phone footage of the panel.  Marco even turned around and shot some of it backwards because the front-facing selfie cam was "shittier," and we needed to make it shittier so that it would look better.

When we wrapped the scene, we felt bad that we didn't have any more scenes for the underused Katie; unfortunately, the character of Maileen Williams could only get involved but so much in Jesse Darden's life in her role as the panel moderator of Genomicon 2028.  After lunch, we relocated to the hotel for the hotel hallway scene.  The hotel is so nice that we felt bad we couldn't shoot more of its beautiful scenery.  I suggested a post-panel flirtation scene between Jesse and Maileen Williams at the hotel pool.  It was a good idea, but we didn't shoot it only because we didn't pay for or schedule a pool shoot and it would be like stupidly out of place in the flow of the story as it stands in the current screenplay for The Perfect 46.

But what we did shoot of the hotel looked wonderful.  Brett was very pleased that the hotel hallway looked exactly like the hallway of a hotel where Genomicon 2028 would be held.  We were getting some decent takes of the hotel hallway oner, but cleaning ladies kept interrupting the shot with giant supply carts.  After like two or three ruined takes, Marco suddenly started asking them in Spanish if they could give us five hot minutes to shoot this scene.  Brett was very impressed.  After that scene, we still had some time left, so a bonus scene was conceived of Jesse inside the hotel room.  It was the kind of scene that, had it been written down in the initial screenplay, would have been the first thing cut because it sounds like shit.  But on spontaneous execution on the day, it's magic.  The one thing I didn't tell anyone while we were at the hotel is that when we arrived, the bellhops downstairs lent us a luggage cart to take the equipment upstairs and one of them asked me to please bring it back downstairs after we got to the room.  I forgot about this and the luggage cart sat in one of our staging rooms for the three hours we were there, and we only returned it when we left.  This was okay because who gives a shit.

After we wrapped for the day, I went back to Brett's with Brett and Mike.  It's been great to see Mike, whom I haven't seen since we shot Waterhole Cove 1 almost three years ago.  Mike is one of the best people you can have on a set.  When we got to Brett's, we were all pretty tired.  Mike wanted to take a nap, but thought it best to hang out with Marco instead and not squander his brief California visit.  And Brett and I didn't know what to do with ourselves, so we went to Pinkberry.  Later that night, I walked to the mall.
